An excellent opportunity is available for an R&D Software Engineer to be based in the North East of England. The role is set within a state of the art facility, with a working environment where talented engineers and scientists can thrive.
For this role, you must possess both embedded and hardware applications software skills and have an ability to programme in C. Experience of Ethernet, USB, RS232, RS485, HART and Foundation Fieldbus is desirable, as is the ability to programme and understand hardware at machine level. Additionally some knowledge of one or more of visual basic, windows CE, .NET, NS Basic or Bordland C++ builder would be advantageous. Experience of safety critical software would also be extremely useful.
You will be involved in all aspects of software design, over the whole design life cycle, from concept to user support, including:
• Preparation of specifications
• Algorithm development
• Data acquisition, processing and presentation
• Communications networks and protocols
• Man-machine interface
• Testing and plant trials
Good interpersonal skills are essential – you need to communicate and develop working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers. There will also be interaction between other global R&D departments with opportunity of travelling to internal international R&D departments and external customer sites.
You need to be able to plan and project manage tasks, to meet agreed project milestones, working either on your own or as part of a small team.
You will be expected to keep up to date with new developments in the electronics and computing industry, and acquire the ability to design software to recognised safety standards.
By keeping up-to-date with the market place and technology trends, you will support R&D Technicians with technical queries. This role essentially is based around Switch Mode Power Supply design/motor controls/LED drivers, so a background in this area would be highly desirable.
