This role is a key position within our clients technology centre; they require a committed organic polymer scientist with experience of curing agents or adhesives. The role a laboratory-based, aimed at developing innovative sustainable proprietary technology platforms within a demanding cost-effective business environment.
Responsibilities:
The position is highly technical and would suit an experienced, enthusiastic, and committed laboratory-based chemist. The role requires:
• Design, synthesis and characterization of novel polymers and curing agents to the required HSE and quality standards, minimizing waste where possible.
• Liaising with project sponsors to ensure focus
• Managing time effectively to minimize impact of meetings / reviews on laboratory activities
• Building on excellent grasp of important technology areas by maintaining current awareness
• Regular presentation of own and wider project results to project sponsors and departmental management
• Organising bimonthly seminars on relevant topics for the technical community, using a variety of internal and external speakers.
The Technology Centre is situated in a custom designed building, has state of the art facilities, and all the necessary tools and techniques to carry out all aspects of the role. The job is mainly laboratory based, with opportunities to attend relevant conferences, and visit partners in joint development projects etc.
Person Specification:
Education:
The candidates will be qualified to PhD level in synthetic organic chemistry, and able to demonstrate practical expertise, be highly numerate and comfortable with the concepts of polymer formulation and their application to multifunctional materials.
Work Experience:
The successful candidate will have industrial experience and proven ability to apply their knowledge to practical situations, demonstrating successful outcomes. Evidence of published papers or patents would be advantageous, delivering cost-effective innovative technology solutions to meet demanding performance requirements. Able to grasp the detail of ever-increasing environmental, legislative and quality standards.
Personal Skills/Competencies:
Integrity, a sense of urgency, leading by example and a questioning attitude are very important for the role, as well as an ability to develop and sell new ideas to both managers and customers.
Must be computer literate and be able to quickly master other technical based software.
