Our client is looking to appoint an Environmental manager.
Accountable to the Senior Environmental Manager for the management of environment and waste on major projects leading up to and throughout the construction phase to ensure the delivery of environmental requirements and compliance with applicable environmental legislation, Construction Site Rules and Company Procedures
Key accountabilities:-
As an Environmental Manager to:
- Ensure compliance and personal accountability

- Ensure processes and standards that can be planned and measured are available to deliver the requirements of construction related projects
Responsibilities
- Visible commitment to environmental improvement programmes and ensures environmental incidents are investigated to prevent recurrence and provide learning
- Contributes to a culture of zero accidents and incidents relating to occupational and personal safety, security, health and environmental issues
- Communicating to staff and contractors the importance of meeting customer, statutory, regulatory and internal requirements
Performance delivery
- Ensure that appropriate construction environmental arrangements are in place to ensure compliance with customer, company and legal requirements
- Provide reports to the Senior Environmental Manager on the adequacy of construction environmental performance
- Management and delivery of environmental risk management and controls
- Ensure all construction team members and associated contractors receive adequate environmental training, instruction and guidance prior to commencement of any works
- Provide relevant training, coaching and mentoring to project staff, contractor management and general workforce on an as-needed basis or as warranted by project conditions
- Track, trend and analyse performance indicator information and formulate recommendations for continuous improvement
- To influence Project Leadership teams to drive environmental best practice and continual improvement
- Ensure the production and issue of environmental documentation required before construction works is allowed to commence (e.g. Construction Environmental Management Plans, Project Register of Environmental Aspects – PREA, Site Waste Management Plans, History documentation for clearance process). This includes reviewing contractor documentation
- Manage compliance with COMAH Regulations for major projects and report to the COMAH Compliance Manager on a regular basis
- Ensure delivery of tool box talks and presentations on environmental topics to increase awareness
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with substantial relevant Environmental Management experience. Or,
- Appropriate professional status and substantial work experience of working in the field of environmental management
- Evidence of continuing professional development. Associate membership of IEMA
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of ISO 14001
- Sound knowledge of waste management legislation and industry best practice
- Excellent knowledge of current environmental legislation applicable to construction
- Excellent knowledge of consents and authorisations
- Excellent understanding of corporate ESH Management systems
- Good understanding of Nuclear Installations Inspectorate licence conditions is desirable
