Mass Spectrometrist

A world leading pharmaceutical and life sciences company is looking for a highly skilled mass spectrometrist who has expertise in applying their understanding to produce unique mass spectrometry solutions. The successful applicant will focus on the development of transformational methodologies, driving execution of proof of concept studies and implementation into biological products and processes workflows. This role will be based at the company’s site in Hertfordshire and be for an initial one year period starting in January 2019.

Roles & Responsibilities

Supervise the installation of new equipment in line with safety and quality requirements and obtain necessary training

Design and execute protocols for the objective evaluation of prototype mass spectrometers and related technologies on an appropriate range of pharmaceuticals with the aim to gather compelling evidence towards a go / no go decision for implementation

Obtain reference data using conventional methodology for benchmarking purposes

Discuss and interpret the results obtained

Communicate the outcome of the evaluation

Feedback to the vendor/s

Drive the implementation in R&D when appropriate

Transfer knowledge gained, and methodologies developed

Experience & Requirements

At least a Masters degree utilising Mass Spectrometry, ideally a PhD, or equivalent

Demonstrated hands-on and practical ability in the analysis of large molecules including sample preparation/digestion (bottom-up, middle-down, middle-up)

PhD in mass spectrometry or equivalent experience

Capacity to think innovatively and flexibly, comfortable with complexity.

An understanding of Multi variate analysis &Bio processes (Biopharm, cell and Gene therapy)

Hands on experience in whole cell and tissues analysis

Able to provide original thinking for analytical methodology development, with focus on novel MS approaches

A thorough understanding of statistics

Strong team working skills, able to effectively work across interdisciplinary groups

Strong desire to learn/scientific curiosity, with cross functional learning agility

Good organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication

Self-motivation, self-starter
