North East Women in Life Sciences 2022

Last week saw us attend the North East Women in Life Sciences event held at The Core, in Newcastle Helix. Set up in recognition of International Women’s Day to celebrate women in the life sciences sector in the North East by 3 women from local independent R&D partner High Force Research: Caitlin Mooney, Ruth Daniels and Hannah Sykes. It is in its second year of running and we enjoyed a successful and inspirational event.

Not only did it allow a real life networking opportunity it also had speakers sharing their career paths and what they have learnt from it. Dr Claire Mahon a polymer chemist at the University of Durham offered insight on academia, Claire Rutherford from Definition IP as a patent attorney and Nicola Emmett as QA/RA manager at LightOx.

Advice varied from believing in yourself, don’t be afraid to take opportunities and remember your career journey is supposed to be fun. Caitlin speaking on behalf of HFR shared:

“We feel strongly in celebrating women in our region who are doing great things to promote life sciences in the North East. We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended and supported this event and hope to see you all next year.”
