Let’s work together to build a more sustainable future20th September 2022
The 21st September is zero emissions day, and as a group of people who are passionate about preserving the health of our planet, this has triggered us to think about steps we can all be taking to build a more sustainable future.
In the words of The WholeLeaf company, the goal of the Zero Emissions Day is to…
“raise awareness of the need for cleaner energy sources over fossil fuels and to encourage individuals and businesses to do their part to protect the environment. Many people participate by pledging to avoid using polluting transportation, such as cars and planes for the day. Others use the day to learn about renewable energy & natural resources, such as solar and wind power. Zero Emissions Day is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in protecting our planet towards a future of environmental sustainability.”
Why is environment protection so important?
The need to work harder towards building a cleaner and greener environment has never been greater.
We are facing some of the biggest environmental challenges of our times, these include climate change, global warming and air pollution, all of which pose a major threat to human wellbeing and the health of the planet. According to EDF, “Tens of thousands of scientists in more than a hundred nations have amassed an overwhelming amount of evidence pointing to a clear conclusion: Humans are the main cause of climate change.”
Yes, as humans we have played a major causative role in the immergence of these problems, but we can just as easily play a vital role in their solution.
By participating in environment protection we are:
- Saving lives and protecting humanity
- Protecting animals
- Protecting the ecosystem
- Preserving nature
- Protecting human health
- Making the environment more safe and secure for individuals
So, what measures can we take to become more environmentally conscious and contribute towards a greener future?
Here are just a few of the actions we can all be taking:
- Make better use of reusable bags
- Protect the environment from pollution by using public transport
- Plant more trees
- Save water properly
- Avoid the use of plastic
- Save energy by using energy saving light bulbs and turn off the lights when you are not using them
- Reduce the amount of rubbish you create, dispose of it correctly in dustbins and don’t burn rubbish
- Drive less – how about riding your bicycle to work?
- Eat less meat
- Litter pick
- Recycle properly
- Use fewer chemicals
Just some of the steps that CY Partners have taken as a business to promote a healthier planet include:
- Cycling to work – we run a cycling to work scheme
- Car sharing
- Going paperless!
- Conducting more meetings via phone or video conference instead of taking physical trips. If we do need to make business trips, we take public transport when possible
How we can help each other become more environmentally conscious
It’s important to remember that we have all played a role in harming the environment, and therefore we hold equal responsibility for working towards a solution. Judging others for doing too much or too little is not going to lead to positive outcomes. Creating a more sustainable environment is certainly more attainable if we work together.
The road to a better planet is about making important everyday choices. It starts with becoming more conscious of the behaviours that will help to reduce pollution, protect wildlife and slow the rate of climate change.
We all have the power to make a difference and to positively influence others to take similar action.
Saving the planet doesn’t have to be a monumental task
Our advice for helping to protect the environment? Start small. Think of one manageable step you can take today to do your part. You could for example go green on your commute and cycle to work, or you could turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, or you could commit to one meat-free day per week.
Whatever you choose to do, you can rest assured that you will be making an impact and helping to make this planet we all call home a better place for everyone.
