Strategies to help you set and achieve professional goals for 2024:


When you visualise you create a picture in your mind of what you want to achieve. Turn your attention away from other priorities, take a journal and write down exactly what you want to achieve in the next 12 months. Writing down goals helps to narrow our focus and break goals down into more manageable steps.

Why are your goals important to you? How do you envision them impacting your career this year? Finding your why is how you form an emotional connection to your goals, it’s your deep-seated motivation.

Set Smart Goals

Goals should be specific, realistic and measurable. Your goal may be to work as a lab technician, but that goal will not manifest without following a series of well-defined steps that will take you from where you are now to where you want to be. Be specific about what you want to achieve, for example, instead of saying ‘I want to be promoted to Senior Scientist”, say ‘I will be Senior Scientist in x division at x company by 12th August 2024’.

Your goals should have deadlines and they should set you up to win, not fail. They should also be relevant to the direction you want your career to take.

State your goals as if you’ve already achieved them

Our minds operate in the now, so state your goals in the present tense, this will also trick your mind into believing that the goal is already true. So, instead of saying ‘I want to work as a QA Analyst for a global pharmaceutical company’, reword it to reflect it accomplishment in the now, i.e ‘I am loving my role as a QC Analyst for a global pharmaceutical company’.
