The Company

My client is a well-funded, consumer-focused healthcare company with global ambitions, founded by an experienced team of industry veterans, entrepreneurs, and scientists. They have ground-breaking technology that truly empowers the consumer which will look to bring healthcare into the home and combine cutting edge technology with a consumer faced approach. Due to continued expansion, they are looking to hire a Bioinformatician who is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), to work on a project studying Traditional Chinese Medicines, in collaboration with a ‘Top 3’ UK University.

The Role of Bioinformatician

The Bioinformatician will work on a key collaborative project between a leading molecular diagnostics company and a leading UK University, you will conduct Bioinformatics research into biomarkers and other data pertaining to Traditional Chinese Herbal Remedies, Medicines and Supplements. Analysis will include genetic data and population data, evaluating genetic biomarkers and the retrieval and analysis of genetic and phenotypic information in both English and Chinese.

To be considered for the role of Bioinformation, you will need the following skills and experience:

  • Fluency in English and Chinese languages
  • BSc or MSc in a relevant subject such as genetics/genomics, population genetics, bioinformatics, systems biology or similar.
  • Working experience in Bioinformatics, in either academia, biotech, diagnostics or the pharmaceutical industry.
  • The ability to perform analysis, visualisation and dissemination of data produced by genetic analysis and phenotype analysis.
  • Solid working knowledge of the publicly available SNP databanks (sequences and frequencies) and their use in clinical development context
  • Significant relevant experience working with applied bioinformatics using genetic identification, filtering, annotations, and functional characterization
  • Statistical programming languages and statistical analysis methods experience in R and bash scripting (or Python)
  • Knowledge or experience in state-of-the-art software for genetics/genomics (e.g. PLINK, vcftools, bcftools, picard tools, kggseq, SNPEff, Annovar) would be an advantage.
