Are you an individual looking to pursue an exciting and unique opportunity in Entomology? A position is available with a world-renowned science company based in York, acclaimed for their crucial work in supporting and developing a sustainable food chain, a thriving natural environment, and the protection of the planet from biological and chemical risks.
As an Entomologist (Insect Bioconversion), you will be experienced in coordinating the day-to-day delivery of experimental work via planning and writing experimental protocols, conducting these experiments and the subsequent analysis of data, writing reports all whilst meeting deadlines and adhering to protocol and regulations. A competency in the rearing and culturing of insects is desired for this role with a proficiency in running and leading studies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Supervising the day-to-day running of experimental work through prioritising and planning work regarding deadlines and resource management. Whilst managing colleagues and providing to this work stream.
- Communication with the project manager to identify needs and suitable plans.
- Provide written reports on experiments and results to the project manager complying to agreed formats.
- Further liaising with Team Managers to best utilise staffing and resources available.
- Ensure adherence to quality systems (ISO 9001), SOPs and protocols for the best possible working conditions in a Cat 2 lab.
- Training of staff when required, followed by sufficient recording of training.
- Act as the Laboratory Responsible Person (LRP) for associated laboratory facilities.
- Competency in presenting work to customers and project partners.
The ideal candidate will have:
- BSc or equivalent in an appropriate subject (Sciences) and additional, relevant lab experience including working with flies and beetles. With responsibilities in colony maintenance and experimental laboratory work.
- Experience in staff supervision including delivery management, planning work and organising resources effectively.
- Understanding of and compliance to quality standards (ISO 9001).
- Effective organisational skills and a motivated demeanour with a high attention to detail.
- Proficient management of data from a variety of sources with subsequent effective decision-making skills based on data and evidence.
